Stop the Stigma. Start the Conversation.

Help yourself or someone you love by learning more about mental health.

Who They Are

The mission of 1N5 is to promote optimal mental health for youth in Greater Cincinnati through education and stigma reduction, community engagement, policy and advocacy, and measurement and data work. 1N5’s vision is a community of youth with optimal mental health so that they grow into their best selves.

What They Do

The goal of 1N5 is to STOP the stigma and START the conversation by increasing awareness and education about mental health. 1N5 is focused on making a difference in how we talk about mental health. Our youth are in crisis, with 20% of youth ages 13-18 living with a mental health condition.

The Pillars of 1N5

Stigma Reduction– Through storytelling, community conversations, and educational events 1N5 works to decrease the stigma associated with mental health

Policy and Advocacy– It is crucial to advocate for policy change at the state and federal level to support mental health education and protect those with mental illness. 1N5 is working diligently to advance policy that will require mental health curriculum from pre-k to 12

Community Engagement– Collaborating with educators working together on mental health issues and engaging annually with an average of 20,000 community members

Education and Programming– Work with schools to personalize programming with a menu of 16 evidence-based programs. In the 2019-2020 school year, supported over 40 schools, 5 universities, and funded $350,000 to local mental health education

Measurement and Data– Surveying stigma and knowledge of mental health in local high schools and pinpointing georgraphical areas most impacted by youth mental illness in order to best address need.

Fast FACTS

  • 1 in 5 children have or will have a mental illness
  • 8-10 years is the average time for a person living with mental health conditions to start receiving treatment
  • Since 1999 suicide rates in the U.S. have raised 33%
  • Evidence suggests that one of the largest impediments to seeking or receiving treatment is a general lack of education on the symptoms of mental illness.

How You Can Help

With your support we can change the way people perceive mental illness. Our $1,000 donation will enable 1N5 to provide QPR training for 200 people.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.

Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans are saying “Yes” to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor.

If you would like to help join us to STOP the stigma and START the conversation, please donate! Any and all amounts are appreciated.
